The Upper Dolpo Trekking – 25 Days is one of Nepal’s most extraordinary and remote Himalayan adventures, leading trekkers into a hidden world of ancient Tibetan culture, dramatic landscapes, sacred monasteries, and untouched wilderness. Located in the far-western region of Nepal, Upper Dolpo remains one of the least-visited trekking destinations due to its restricted status and geographical isolation. This remoteness has helped preserve its unique traditions, culture, and natural beauty, making it a dream destination for experienced trekkers seeking a true off-the-beaten-path expedition.

The journey begins with flights from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and onward to Juphal, the gateway to Dolpo. The trail follows beautiful river valleys, dense pine forests, suspension bridges, and traditional villages before reaching the breathtaking Phoksundo Lake, Nepal’s deepest and most beautiful alpine lake. Surrounded by towering cliffs and snow-capped peaks, the lake’s turquoise waters create one of the most spectacular landscapes in the Himalayas.

Beyond Phoksundo, the trek enters the restricted Upper Dolpo region, where trekkers cross high mountain passes including the magnificent Kang La Pass (5,360m). The scenery gradually changes into a rugged high-altitude desert landscape similar to the Tibetan Plateau, offering dramatic views of barren valleys, glaciers, and snow-covered Himalayan peaks. Along the route, trekkers visit remote villages such as Ringmo, Shey, Saldang, Yangze, Tokyu, and Dho Tarap, where ancient Tibetan Buddhist traditions continue to flourish.

A major highlight of the expedition is the visit to Shey Gompa, one of the most sacred monasteries in Dolpo. Nestled beneath the revered Crystal Mountain, this centuries-old monastery attracts Buddhist pilgrims from across the Himalayas. The trek also provides opportunities to explore ancient monasteries, prayer walls, chortens, and sacred sites that showcase the region’s rich spiritual heritage.

Upper Dolpo lies within Shey Phoksundo National Park, Nepal’s largest national park and a haven for rare wildlife including snow leopards, Himalayan blue sheep, musk deer, and Himalayan wolves. The region’s exceptional biodiversity and pristine environment make it a paradise for nature lovers and photographers.

The 25 Days Upper Dolpo Trek offers a unique combination of adventure, culture, spirituality, and natural beauty. From crystal-clear alpine lakes and sacred monasteries to remote mountain villages and high Himalayan passes, every day presents unforgettable experiences in one of Nepal’s last untouched wilderness regions.
